Native American Feminine Deities

Reading Time: minutes

As a Navajo, I am continuously learning more and more about my culture. The Changing Woman gives me a deeper insight into my own womanhood and what it means to be a modern woman, mother, daughter, sister and a Navajo tribal member.

Changing Woman (Asdzą́ą́ Nádleehé) meaning "the woman who changes", is one of the creation spirits of the Navajo.

The overall concept of Changing Woman is that she encompasses the full spectrum of the life cycle and womanhood of all women, from birth through elders to death. She is constantly changing throughout her life span; transitioning and transforming over and over again throughout life. In this way, she represents the power of life, fertility, and changing seasons.

I wanted to share the Navajo story about Changing Woman because of the current times we are experiencing. I have always felt it is important to share parts of my cultural knowledge with others who are interested in learning about Navajo teachings. Every culture has deep understanding and lessons learned that can still be applied for today's people.

My hope is that by sharing my own traditional information it will inspire other women to learn more about their own culture and where they came from.

I hope you enjoy this presentation.
