Did you know that each new moon is about new beginnings?
If the ocean is influenced by the moon, the rising and falling of tides, you can bet we (70% water beings) are also. The moon is the fastest moving and most influential aspect of astrology.
Astrology is a range of divinatory practices that have been around since the 18th century. The moon cycles move every 28 days … sound familiar?
Every new and full moon is in a different astrological sign, this month it is Virgo. The symbol of Virgo is the virgin. Not the woman in white who has not, or never will, have sex... that version is specific to the Nicean Council when the bible was retranslated for the benefit of property owners and the church.
The original meaning of virgin is - a woman who belongs to herself. In other words a woman who is sovereign, having power and authority over self.
The new moon, that is happening this Saturday, is symbolized by the virgin, the woman who is sovereign.
This means we have the power of that sovereignty, if we claim it. The new moon invites us to create new beginnings, new intentions and new possibilities.
The opportunity of this week is to not only think about and articulate what we want to create but to notice and observe the areas or ways we do not own ourselves fully … where we do not claim our sovereignty.
Between today and Saturday, consider some of the ways you undermine or abandon yourself. This may look like not speaking up or stepping over something. Or maybe you’re not doing the work as it relates to yourself and what you have said about who you are, what you want and what you are up to. Write a few of these down in your journal.
Then on Saturday, choose one thing that, if you started doing it or stopped doing it, you would experience yourself as sovereign, as belonging to yourself and only yourself. This is claiming the virgin in you!
Before you go to bed Saturday, thank the new moon for the new seed, the new beginning of you in this cycle. Don’t be surprised if you have new thoughts and ideas about people to talk to, places to go or things to do.
