Dark & Light Side
of New Year's Resolutions

A 2021 survey of New Year's Resolutions revealed that the top three resolutions Americans tend to make are: 1.) getting in shape, 2.) losing weight and 3.) saving more money. Beyond A Dream
This week we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's life and legacy and in classrooms across the nation students are reading books about his "I Have a Dream" speech. While these ideals are certainly admirable, most public conversations don't go deeper than that. Let's dive below the surface and consider some additional history and modern implications of the gains made, and not made, during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's. How is this relevant to ourselves, as women in the world today?

Book Club!!!
Blending memoir and fiction in the storytelling style common to many Indian traditions, Tapahonso's writing shows that life and death are intertwined, and that the Navajo people live with the knowledge that identity is formed by knowing about the people to whom one belongs. The use of both English and Navajo in her work creates an interplay that may also give readers a new way of understanding their connectedness to their own inner lives and to other people.
