Have you heard of the Sophia Century? It refers to the first one hundred years in the 3rd millennium. In other words, the 21st century, where we are right now.
We were excited to hear Lynn Twist, a Featured Speaker at our Imagining in Action Summit, speak about the Sophia Century and what it means to our world.
What does it mean?
Sophia means “wisdom” in Greek, or wisdom intelligence, which was significantly shaped by the term philosophy (love of wisdom) as used by Plato.
The Sophia Century has been said to be “When Women Come Into Co-Equal Partnership” alongside men in the shaping of the world going forward. When women are in partnership with men, the world can come into balance.
The Baha’i, as well as the Cherokee, prophesied that the 21st century is a defining century, a century of revolution and revelation. A time when women become completely expressed, alongside men.
Lynn shared with us their metaphor about the bird of humanity which has 2 great wings, male and female. For hundreds of years, the male wing has been fully extended, over developed, and even violent in its effort to keep humanity aloft. Meanwhile, the female wing has been folded under. It is time for the female wing to become fully developed providing balance and not only keeping the bird of humanity aloft, but allowing it to soar.
