We had such a delicious inquiry on last Friday's Goddess Talk we thought we would share it with everyone who has been following the conversation.
We took our inquiry theme for winter, light and dark, a bit further and explored Yin and Yang. Yin and Yang is widely related to as the originating idea from which Light/Dark and Feminine/Masculine has been built on.
According to Dictionary.com:
"Yin-yang refers to a concept originating in ancient Chinese philosophy where opposite forces are seen as interconnected and counterbalancing. It is commonly represented by the yin-yang symbol, a circle made up of black and white swirls, each containing a spot of the other."
Black and white is the most common artistic image we know, easy to see why light/dark way of perceiving is often thought to be from this ancient teaching!
Going further Nationalgeographic.org states:
"Yin and yang show that everything in the universe is connected and that nothing makes sense by itself. Taoism became well-known in the eighth century C.E. as the religion of the Tang dynasty. In the following centuries, it existed alongside Buddhism and Confucianism"
You can see these ideas have been around for awhile and have made it into virtually every aspect of our language. We "know" these concepts very much influence what and how we "know" to sort the world as we encounter it.
The useful thing about bringing awareness to our way of filtering, we begin to see the hidden influencers that shape how we react to things as we encounter them. When we expand our awareness, we can expand our options for responding and acting. This is true power ... when we can have conscious control of how we respond and act to life as it comes at us.
