Goddess Talk – Health & Your Hormones

Reading Time: minutes

Last Friday's Goddess Talk, with nurse practitioner Kala Dehaan-Hill of Pink Link Medical, was SO informative and critical to women's health, we decided to share the goodies from the discussion with everyone!  Read to the bottom, there is a LOT of good info!

Women's health is a complicated and tough subject. Did you know, it was just over 20 years ago that women began being included in medical studies?! For most of the "modern medical" history, the "normal" model by which all health care and practices were developed, was a 31 year old white male. Imagine being a woman of color .. a double whammy.

For this reason (and many others), we always recommend women take the case that they must be their own health care advocate. This can be daunting to say the least.

In the Goddess Living members community, we try to make it a bit easier by encouraging the sharing of experiences and information. That said, none of what we share is meant (or intended) to be prescriptive or to be a substitute for medical advice.  We DO encourage you to build a team of trained health practitioners around you and take the leading role.

Our physical well-being is the most fundamental and important thing we can do to care for ourselves. Whenever you don't feel well, listen to your body and pursue answers. Below are some of the resources and ideas that emerged from Friday's discussion.

Healthy Hormones

So often we know that "something isn't right", but either we think it might be normal or we just don't where to begin to figure it out. Or maybe we do find out what it is, but traditional medicine, with its 15 minute appointments and symptom only treatments, doesn't get us to the healthy outcomes we seek.

Here are some of the resources and ideas that emerged from Friday's discussion.

Resource

The EWG APP

EWG: Our mission is simple ...

To empower you with breakthrough research to make informed choices and live a healthy life in a healthy environment.

EWG is an organization focused on finding out and disclosing what chemicals are in our food, health and beauty products, water and much more. They have a robust website where you can find out everything from how your water stacks-up, to what's in that sunscreen plus key research and information on a variety of products.

If you want the App on your phone, it can be found in your favorite App store, just look for the logo shown above. The App focuses on EWG certified health and beauty products, You can scan the bar code of products right in the store and find out if that product is safe of not.

The website has the database on water municipalities and their consumer guides. The number one thing you can do quickly and easily to improve your health and lessen your risk of major disease including the big C, is get rid of products that have known carcinogens AND eat health whole foods.

Book

Cancer Free! Are You Sure?

This book was recommended to me last year when I received my BRACA2 positive genetics report. After much research and study, I have decided to focus first on NOT getting Cancer. Secondly, using Jenny's tips, monitor things carefully and fully to ensure that if I do get cancer, I know it in time to ensure the best outcome! After reading this book I feel it is a MUST have for everyone's bookshelf.

From Amazon ...
"ROUGHLY 38 PERCENT OF MEN AND WOMEN WILL BE DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER IN THEIR LIFETIME, according to the National Cancer Institute. Breast cancer survivor and nurse Jenny Hrbacek knows it doesn't have to be that way. Americans are led to believe that the only way to discover cancer is by waiting for a tumor to grow big enough for a mammogram, biopsy, or PET scan to detect it. Jenny Hrbacek proves this to be wrong. Tumors can grow undetected for seven to ten years. Knowing this, you can intervene with early testing and avoid chemotherapy and radiation."
