Inquiry: a Conversation with a Purpose
|
Our monthly meetings are designed to be a Salon style conversation. We inquire into subjects that impact the quality of our lives and our roles as women in the world today. I LOVE this quote about the power and purpose of these kinds of conversations. “…[C]onversation – the most basic, most varied, and occasionally the most elevating of all human activities. Humans have made conversation the defining experience of our social identities. Conversation is the sea we swim in. Conversation is the way we convey information, inspire each other, and achieve understanding. Conversation is the music we make when we commune. But not all conversation is created equal. Some talk, though right and proper, is small. Cocktail chitchat, locker room bravado, office gossip, and talk show repartee come to mind." “Then there’s salon. Salons are gatherings where people talk “big talk,” talk meant to be listened to and perhaps passionately acted upon. Salons are incubators where ideas are conceived, gestated, and hatched, sometimes in a matter of minutes or hours. Salons are the frontiers of social and cultural change. Salons are the concert halls where conversation is presented in virtuoso style. They are going on all over America right now. Friends and neighbors are coming together to engage in un-small talk. They’re cultivating their creativity, reviving the art of conversation, and quite possibly changing the world.” ~ The Joy of Conversation: the Complete Guide to Salons by Jjaida N’ha Sandra |
Why showing appreciation is YOUR superpower!

Acknowledgement vs. Appreciation
~ Anne Peterson, Founder Goddess Living

In our inquiry conversation this last Saturday we looked at Acknowledgment and it's distinct function, separate from Appreciation.
When we acknowledge something we are bringing present 'what is so', or 'how it is'. As soon as we do this that thing is complete, it is what it is, nothing more nothing less. This creates a powerful foundation for something new to emerge.
This is when Appreciation really is a Super Charged Power to create. When we appreciation something, some quality or someone we automatically create the space in our lives and our awareness for more of that thing!
Literally when we appreciate something is grows. More of it comes into our space. Watch out this works with bad stuff the same as it does for good stuff!
We went on to look at what we might risk when we openly and unabashedly practice appreciation?
How about appreciating ourselves??
Your invited to join us in our Engagement Assignment: For the next month take on a daily appreciation practice. Each day, pick something or someone to appreciate.

Mike Robbins is the author of two books, Focus on the Good Stuff, and Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Already Taken, as well as the forthcoming book Nothing Changes Until You Do. Click Mike's Image to watch his TedxBellevue Talk. (18m) In this heartwarming, humorous, and thought-provoking talk at TEDxBellevue, Mike talks about "The Power of Appreciation." As Mike discusses, there is an important distinction between "recognition" and "appreciation." Leaders, teams, organizations, and individuals who understand this distinction can have much more impact, meaning, and productivity in their lives and with the people around them. He also discusses some important research in the field of positive psychology that exemplifies the importance of appreciation. |
