Here’s to Your Health

What can we do better to heal health problems at their root?

Guest speaker Dr. Marta Cordell joined us on a Goddess Talk to speak to this very question. She is a Naturopathic Doctor and shared some simple and easy things we can do to live healthier.

Marta shared that the real positive impacts on our health are actually the simple things. Things like nutrition, hydration and sleep. Sleep is huge, as you know. Physical activity and sunshine are key as is fresh air, aka being outside in nature. Plus, we can’t forget happiness/joy.

Speaking of joy…

We need to have fun! Marta asked… What are you doing for fun? If there is no answer to that question, it might be time to add some fun back into our lives! We love this ingredient for better health.

We could probably stop this email right here and if all you did was add some more fun, your health would improve, but…there’s more.

A word of caution…

Don't try to do everything all at once. Start with one thing and then add others over time.

Nutrition…

Marta pointed out that food is not just food… there are cultural, social, family and history connotations, not to mention, food for comfort that makes it all a little less than simple. If food were simply fuel, it would be no problem to eat the right things.

So what can we do that IS simple… Add Veggies, cooked veggies. That alone will help things a LOT. Oh and chew your food more!

Hydration…

We have all heard about our need to drink more water. We did a whole article that you can read HERE and something Marta added was to drink our water warm as our system can absorb it better.

Moving our bodies…

We all think we should run out and join a gym… well, maybe not. Start with just moving. We are made to move and long ago, we HAD to move to live. We chased things, dug things up, we climbed trees and built stuff, etc and now, we sit at a computer for WAY too many hours of the day.

Just pick one thing. Maybe set an alarm so you get up from your chair every hour or add dancing to your schedule (and dare we say some fun), or maybe walk around the block at lunch. ANYTHING you add will help.

Get good sleep…

It is when the body repairs and the brain files stuff, so super important. Marta’s biggest tip? Go to bed!

Did you know that the body has a hormone that suppresses the need to pee while you are sleeping. So… we don’t wake up because we have to pee, we pee because we wake up.

Some other good tips include to wear amber glasses an hour before bed to simulate it getting dark, use amber bulbs in your lamps at home and one different thing, step outside in the sunshine first thing in the morning as it starts the body’s 16 hour countdown to sleep.

Which leads us to sunshine and fresh air…

We need sunshine in the morning and we need sunshine filtered through the trees. We need fresh air, out in nature. We also need to put our feet on the ground to ground ourselves, an added benefit to being outside in nature.

We started with fun, so we will end with that and say one last thing… Go ahead, we dare you, add more FUN to your life and living!
