The New Year’s HOT Topic!

Reading Time: minutes

We are starting the new year with a very HOT topic … This topic is HOT both by its very nature AND because of the post Roe world we find ourselves in now.

The Goddess Living Community first quarter primary inquiry subject …

Sex Ed!!

There is a lot of attention on this type of education after Roe due to the devastating consequences of there being less access to information, options and support for both wanted and unwanted pregnancies.

Did you know …

  • Young people are not getting the sex education they need: About half of adolescents (53% of females and 54% of males) reported in 2015–2019 that they had received sex education that meets the minimum standard articulated in Healthy People 2030 … fewer than half (43% of females and 47% of males) received this instruction before they first had sex.
  • In 2015–2019, more adolescents reported that they had received instruction about saying no to sex (81% of females and 79% of males) or waiting until marriage (67% and 58%, respectively) than about where to obtain birth control (48% of females and 45% of males) or how to use a condom (55% and 60%, respectively).
  • More than 90% of adolescents reported receiving instruction on STIs, including HIV.
  • Although the proportion of adolescent males reporting instruction on saying no to sex increased between 1995 and 2015–2019 (74% vs. 79%), this proportion decreased for adolescent females during the same time period (92% vs. 81%).

This study shows the general failure of this education with today's teens. Imagine what it would have looked like for many of us??!!

However, we won’t be limiting our exploration of to ONLY reproduction or STI consequences like most other education on the subject. There is SO much more to this natural and most basic function and nature of us human beings. Not to mention the unique connection we women have to the intimacy and meaning of the big 'S'.

Over the 1st quarter, we will explore Sex Education in our community inquiries and practices in three (one for each month) parts, they are …

  1. What education we either got or didn’t get, and the impact that has had on both our lives and the society we live in.
  2. What we don’t know or were likely never taught about it. Like did you know there are 7 different types of the big 'O'??!!
  3. Sex and aging. As we know and will have explored more in month 2, it is about much more than reproduction. As we humans age, we still need and want the intimacy, pleasure and physical health that comes with a healthy relationship to it.

Sex and all that comes with the subject is vital to our wellness as women, our sense of self, our physical health and our social wellness.

We will feature expert guides on our Friday Goddess Talks and experts will also join us for our monthly members meetings to educate us as we explore this vital subject.

We look forward to what we will discover together in the coming months.

You can get started by watching this short (11m) video produced by Netflix about
The History of S... Education

As you watch we invite you to think about the following questions:

  • What education did you received and how that has impacted your life?
  • How has that education or lack of it affected your relationship to pleasure?

PS: You may have noticed that we have used some creative ways to talk abut this topic...
thank you for bearing with us as we try to avoid being labeled by the server gods as porn! 🙂
