Dear Goddess,Have you ever had to ask a woman or young girl to speak up? Has it ever happened to you .. someone says “I can’t hear you?” or “Can you speak Louder?”. OR maybe you have wondered, even to yourself, why I didn’t “speak up?”regarding some situation you experienced or witnessed. I was working alongside a well known Guru type leader one time, who told me... “all women” have a suppressed voice. This was while I was trying to get a brilliant woman on one of our production teams to make announcements in a small workroom. These announcements needed to be loud enough to get everyone's attention. It took 4 days and LOTS of practicing in the Cancun waves to finally get this adult professional (she is a college professor) to be heard in a small but bustling room. She was practicing yelling her announcements over the crash of the waves, and on the 4th day, a swimmer several yards out popped up and said “What??!!” .. that's when we knew she had a breakthrough in speaking to be heard! Along the way to this breakthrough, this brilliant woman saw for herself all kinds of experiences and lessons she had adopted since childhood and they all worked together to “keep her quiet”. Lessons like .. always be polite, best to be seen and not heard, don’t cause conflict, loud women are bitchy … the list goes on and on. I have seen many parents urging their sons to speak up, while leaning in to hear their daughters whispers and then do her speaking for her. I see this at restaurants and stores often. I likely did it once or twice with my own daughter when she was growing up. We are trying to help but we are subtly reinforcing messaging that is deeply embedded in our collective consciousness about women and their voices … keep quiet! The #metoo movement has ushered in a new opportunity for women to speak up and speak out. While that movement is specifically about ending sexual violence, the message to speak up is important for all aspects of living as a woman in the world today. As women, who are connected to the power and sacred gift (aka Goddess-ness) of being a woman in the world today, we need to practice speaking up, AND encouraging and supporting the women around us to speak up! Both in volume and quantity. Look for an opportunity to insert your voice in some new way this week! |

This Month's Goddess
Brigit
She reminds us to - Stand up for what we believe is right!
“Brigid was a goddess full of contradiction. She was a goddess of healing, fertility, and motherhood, but also of passion and fire. Further complicating matters, Brigid was a goddess of serenity and water as well. Evidence of her worship has been found throughout Ireland, reflecting her importance as a powerful, yet personal deity. When she was not protecting mothers and newborn children, Brigid inspired many of the writers and poets for which Ireland is internationally renowned.
Brigid often appeared as a fiery-haired goddess wearing a cloak of sunbeam. She appears primarily in the form of a maiden or a mother, depending on the tale. These multiple forms may have been reflective of her status as a triple goddess.” READ MORE ...
