Women Taking a Stand

Reading Time: minutes

Women's History Month - Taking a Stand ...

We are continually inspired by the women who have gone before us and have taken a stand for something. They have spoken out about big things and small things and have made a ripple or a wave in the history of our world.

What is it to take a stand for something? We feel it can be something as simple as not walking by the trash to really calling out the wrongs, abuses, exploitations and inequities we see.

Throughout history, the women who have been fierce advocates in the journey towards equality and fairness have simply been themselves. They brought all their fire, wit and wisdom to the causes they started or championed.

The Right to Vote

The suffragists fought for the right to vote with sassy signs and clever slogans.

One memorable banner read, "I'm no bird; I don't want to be caged."

Civil Rights

In 1955, we all know that Rosa Parks refused to get up from her seat on the bus. She was quoted as saying… "The only tired I was, was tired of giving in."

Educating Girls

At 15, Malala Yousafzai was shot on the way home from school. She had spoken out about girls being educated after the Taliban occupied her village and took away that right. When asked about her reaction to the Taliban shooting, she replied… "I'm still alive, so they must be pretty bad at their job."

Once recovered, she had a choice: “I could live a quiet life or I could make the most of this new life I had been given. I determined to continue my fight until every girl could go to school.”

For what we may want to take a stand for in our lives, we have the commitment and actions of our foremothers and some wise words from actress Emma Watson to inspire and fortify us.

“I want to offer a few statements of my own that I have struggled with, and I continue to struggle with on a daily basis but that I have found inspiring. … I am willing to be seen. I am willing to speak up. I am willing to keep going. I am willing to listen to what others have to say. I am willing to go forward even when I feel alone. I am willing to go to bed each night at peace with myself. I am willing to be my biggest, bestest, most powerful self. These seven statements scare the absolute shit out of me. But I know that they are at the crux of it all. At the end of the day, and when all is said and done, I know that these are the ways that I want to have lived my life.”

~ Emma Watson - 33 yr old actress known for roles in Little Women and Harry Potter, to name a few.

From the suffragists to modern-day activists, women's history is marked by resilience, courage, and a commitment to creating a more just and equitable world. We appreciate and acknowledge the everyday Goddesses, like you, who stand for yourselves, your own family AND the greater human family.

As we celebrate Women's History Month we strive to recognize and amplify the voices of women who have, and continue to, shape the course of history.

This was an email to our Goddess Gals.  Hope you enjoy!
